Leicestershire & Rutland Veteran Ladies Golf Association

1st team v Staffordshire

On Tuesday 20th May, 16 of us travelled up to Branston for a friendly match against Staffordshire Veteran LGA’s 1st Team. By “friendly” I mean that it was off handicap, with the
maximum number of shots being given 7, and teams logically arranged and evenly balanced. This was a testament to the organisation of our captain Jacqui, who had been
called away but had us all in shape via email and Whatsapp.
Staffordshire gave us a warm welcome, took our photos on the first tee (for evidence later?) and we were sent out on our way by their efficient starter. Not many of us had played
Branston before. We discovered a fair and open course, with some hidden jeopardy in the form of ponds, streams and geese.
As the results came in, the tension mounted…a win, two losses, a win, a loss, a win. At this point, SVLGA Captain Liz and I started covering the team sheets and talking in whispers.
Over our meal, I was able to announce the final result, which was an amicable and equitable draw 4-all.
Thanks to Liz and her team for a warm welcome, a beautiful sunny day and good competition. We look forward to seeing you next year in Leicestershire.
