Leicestershire & Rutland versus Northamptonshire 2nd Team Match
Monday 31st July and all too soon it’s our final inter-county match, played at Priors Hall Golf Club, Corby.
Gina Evans, Northamptonshire Captain had arrived very early and had prepared the cards for both teams. All that remained was to check the handicaps and calculate the shots for each group. Both teams arrived in good time and we all enjoyed a welcome coffee /tea before setting off to the first tee.
The course sits in a beautiful setting surrounded by many varieties of mature trees, long wide fairways and has strategically placed bunkers on most holes. The 18th hole perhaps provides the greatest challenge requiring a big push to get up the hill to an elevated green.
After recovering from that last climb we enjoyed a lovely carvery with seasonal vegetables, followed by summer cheesecake.
The final result of the match came down to the last fourball, as it has done in the last two Northamptonshire matches, and was a 4½ to 3½ win to Northamptonshire. As with all our matches this season, the end result and indeed each game has been extremely close and could have gone either way.
