It was quite a feat to get 32 ladies from 12 different clubs across Leicestershire and Rutland together for our big season finale at Hinckley on 4th October! The event should originally have been the rearranged match against Staffordshire, after it was called off at the start of the season because of the course being waterlogged. However, Staffs unfortunately had to cry off and my reliable teams of ladies all turned out for what proved to be one of the best days of the season. We played a fun- but competitive – match in lovely autumnal weather, followed by a delicious meal, well looked after by the staff at Hinckley. The post-match laughter and camaraderie bore witness to how much these events are enjoyed by everyone, catching up and making plans to play in each other’s Opens. For me, it was a wonderful end to a very special year and I am glad to have had the privilege of serving as your Second and Third team Captain. My thanks go too to the ladies who have helped me tremendously, by collecting the meal money while I prepared cards, especially Angela Wright and VC Pauline.
