Leicestershire Vs Staffordshire at Longcliffe Golf Club    Monday 18th May 2026

16 ladies from 11 different clubs donned their pale blue regalia to come to Longcliffe Golf Club on a blustery day for our first match of the 2026 season. We had managed our expectations for unseasonably poor weather. Some went out with waterproofs on already, but fortune favoured us and we only got a bit wet and not drenched.

Because this was a friendly match, it was played off handicap. Staffordshire fielded playerswith handicap indices in the range of 1.3 to 13.1, while we ranged from 9.7 to 16.8, partially due to the date clashing with our county scratch matches.

LRVLGA President Sandra greeted us all and sent us on our way. Sadly, we did not capitalise on receiving shots and the final result was a loss of    2 ½ - 5 ½. I blame Aaron Rai for our loss, as I am sure half of our ladies were sleep-deprived, having watched him win the PGA Championship the previous evening …and I assume they don’t have TVs in Staffordshire.

The next match is on June 3rd against Lincolnshire at South Kyme.
