1st Team V 2nd team At Lutterworth on Thursday 25 September 2025
The final match of the season was held, thankfully, in glorious sunshine.
32 ladies from 12 different clubs around Leicestershire all came to play, in high competitive spirits, for this great end of season match. The added pressure this year was the addition of a wooden spoon for the loosing team. The spoon has been beautifully painted with the L&RVLGA logo painted on by Andrena Porter, our Lady President and decorated with ribbons in the county colours kindly donated by Di Jaggard.
This match was played as a 4BBB match play with handicap allowance. As in previous years it is a time for the team captains and their vice captains to play against each other. Unfortunately Trish Formoy 1st team Vice captain was unable to play so Andrena stepped in to play on her behalf. This meant for the 2nd team they were playing against 2 home players but as Pauline warned her players, they were happy to take the hit for the 2nd team!
The matches were all played with everyone trying hard not to win the wooden spoon, with some matches being won or lost on the 18th hole! Eventually though the final result was a win of 5:3 to the 1st team. A huge thank you to the 1st team on the day of: Corinne Boyd & Cathy Russell, Rita Dekonski & Di Jaggard, Karen Wiseman & Liz Reddick, Jacqui Knight (1st Team Captain) & Andrena Porter (Lady President), Alison Horak & Jane Lewis, Annette O’Meara & Fran Jelly, Trudie Allen & Elaine Holloway, Jenny Woodland & Stella Curran.
The wooden spoon was presented into the care of 2nd team captain, Pauline Vickers, until the rematch next year. It was an excellent day to end a playing season which has gone by so quickly.
I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to all the ladies who have played for the 1st team this year, the committee, all the clubs who held our matches and to everyone else who has supported me throughout my Captaincy. I have really enjoyed my year, especially meeting up with lots of our lady members who are new to me & playing different courses.
I look forward to meeting up with lots of you again at the AGM and Luncheon on Thursday 13th November at Devonshire Place in Leicester, where I will also be presenting several ladies with their County colours.
