1st team with County Senior Gents

1st Team Match Report Charnwood Forest Golf Club

On Wednesday 3rd September we were invited to play with the County Senior Gentlemen in the annual team 4BBB competition, where the scores of the best lady andthe best man count.
This is a lovely, friendly format, especially for any married couple who end up playing in the same team & this was the case for Kate and Keith Elliott who were drawn to play together. Fortunately, they were the couple who, several years ago, changed the format of play to the one we have today, which was an excellent decision by them and the matches are now definitely enjoyed by everyone.
The weather had threatened thunderstorms and lightning but we managed to play the first 9 holes in dry conditions. Unfortunately, the rain decided to make an appearance on the back 9, but thankfully the lightning stayed away.
Many thanks must go to our President, Andrena Porter, who very kindly brought 4 bottles of wine for the prize table.
The competition had some excellent scores, with the team of Annie Martin, Tracey Griffiths, Dave Gray and Paul Williamson, scoring 77 points to come 2nd on count back. But many congratulations must go to Andrena and her partners Pam Hall, Mark Ilsley and Paul Jelly, for winning the competition with an impressive 80 points. Well done to all the prizewinners.
Our thanks must also go to the catering team who provided us with a tasty bacon/sausage roll before play and meal of steak and ale pie, chips and peas afterwards. This was just what we needed on a wet and windy afternoon, definitely not the weather for a salad!
I mustn’t forget a thank you to Annie Martin, who stepped in very last minute to play, but then became our personal gatekeeper as she knew the code to let us through the barrier to get out of the club car park! Many thanks Annie.
Unbelievably, the next match is the last of a season which has flown by. It has been a great pleasure to be the 1st team Captain this year and I would like to thank every lady who has played in this year’s matches. We have won some and lost some but they have all been played in a competitive, friendly spirit which is what all sport should be about.
The final competition is 1st team v 2nd team, a 4BBB match off handicap, to be held at Lutterworth on Thursday 25th September. The new wooden spoon trophy is ready and dressed with ribbons awaiting its first presentation to the winning side. I look forward to seeing you there.
