Leicestershire and Rutland Veteran Ladies v Northamptonshire 2nd Team
at Ullesthorpe Court Monday 21st July 2025
The luck of the 2nd/3rd teams with regard to the weather ran out big time for this fixture!! It all started well despite the biblical rain the previous day, but by the time the first group was going through the 9th torrential rain had come in. It only lasting a short while, but thunder circled round us, and after one strike of lightening everyone was called in ☹
The day started ominously in that all our team was all there - but no Opposition 😬 Finally, a few arrived thinking they were early for an 11.52am first tee time rather than the 11.00am that had been agreed 😱 The Northants team sheet was discarded with their players being sent out as they arrived. In the end we got there, and as Terry Wogan would have said, no one died 😂
We decided the result would be based on the position of each group at the point they came in; the first made it to the 15th while the last group came in after the 10th. At that point Northamptonshire was up in 5 matches, Leicestershire and Rutland in 3. In some of the other matches we were only 1 down, so very close. Well done to everyone 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The 16 ladies who took part came from 10 clubs over our two counties, so it was a great opportunity for all to meet new people. Us all coming in at the same time also meant there was more opportunity for everyone to socialise. The feedback was that everyone enjoyed the day, and that the Northamptonshire ladies were very friendly. I appreciate I’m biased, but I do think the course looked great, and certainly had more grass than many. Overall, I think that counts as a win for all 😊
